I gathered and developed these resources when I was studying the Aeneid as part of the OU Course A379 in 2008.
(N.B. These are not official Open University resources.)

Recommended Reading
Set books for the 2008 A397 course and others I found useful.

Collaborative Translation
This is a collaborative translation of most of Book 2 (all the extracts that were set for the OU Course).  It was done by a group of students studying A397 in 2008.

Perseus Linked Text
The Latin text of the Aeneid with hyperlinks to morphology and dictionary definitions for each word.  You can view various English translations and commentaries here too – once you get to Perseus, click on the word ‘load’ to the right of whatever you want to view.

Aeneid 4
Aeneid 6

Tony Kline Translation
Here is a very useful, close to the Latin, translation by Tony Kline:

Recordings of Books 1, 2, 4 and 6

Here are some links to the recordings I made for my own use while studying the Aeneid. They are based on Tony Kline’s translation and were made with his permission as long as they are not used for commercial purposes:
Aeneid 1
Aeneid 2
Aeneid 4
Aeneid 6

These recordings were done in a tearing hurry while I was preparing for the A397 exam.  There are some stumbles and repeat words that I would like to edit out and also some poor quality recording (I had to record in a noisy environment and then over-processed in an attempt to remove the background). If you find these problems, I would be very pleased if you would make a note of where they occur in the comments below and I will correct them when I can.  Please also provide links to any useful resources you have found.  Thanks :-)

  1. Thank you for all your hard work, Mair ~ these resources should prove very useful when I tackle A397 next year. :o )

  2. Thanks Mair. These sound great. I am doing the A297 and am struggling trying to remember all the endings. I had downloaded you earlier recordings and these are proving helpful so I am downloading these as well. In case I pass because then I will try the A397. Thanks again

  3. Thanks for these great resources. When trying to download the recordings of Books 1,4 and 6, I am only getting book 6. I find it really useful to be able to listen as opposed to reading, and it’s useful to follow the Latin at the same time. Hoping you can fix the problem. Thanks again.

  4. Ah, recordings of Book VI, Mair! And I’d left my recordings of book VI on shore. Downloading now…
